Roseland Apizza in Derby is a solid local spot for those seeking a classic, no-frills Connecticut-style pizza experience with authentic Italian touches. Nestled on Hawthorne Avenue, the restaurant blends a vintage vibe with friendly, attentive service that feels like stepping into a family-run place where the kitchen and front of house know their regulars well.

The atmosphere leans toward casual and comfortable, with a hint of old-school charm in its interior design. It’s exactly the kind of place where you could easily settle in for a Saturday night pizza feast without a long wait, even during busier hours. Locals and visitors alike appreciate the laid-back setting that doesn’t try too hard but delivers on quality.

Pizza at Roseland comes in traditional styles, including classics like pepperoni and margherita, but also offers more adventurous options that lean into seafood, such as the shrimp casino pie, which stands out for its generous topping and well-balanced cooking. The crust is reminiscent of New Haven’s well-known style—thin with a slight chew—but less salty, which might appeal to those looking for a subtler flavor. Beyond the pizza, the menu offers Italian staples like lobster ravioli, lasagna, and a variety of grinders, which provide hearty alternatives for diners not solely fixated on pie.

Visitors who are mindful of allergies or dietary preferences will take note of Roseland’s care in dough preparation; it’s one of the few places locally that makes its own dough without olive oil, which can be important for people sensitive to such ingredients. Freshly made bread and house salads with homemade dressings round out a meal nicely, offering balance alongside more indulgent options.

The best time to drop by is likely weekend evenings or casual weeknights when the kitchen is humming but not overwhelmed. The service during these times tends to be prompt and personable, adding a layer of warmth to the meal. Overall, Roseland Apizza appeals to pizza lovers who appreciate craftsmanship, a family-oriented atmosphere, and a local spot that honors Connecticut’s deep pizza tradition without leaning too heavily into hype.

Great service and great food. Came here on a Saturday night and didn’t have to wait too long. Got 3 pizzas pepperoni, a margarita pizza, and the shrimp casino which was recommended by our server. The pepperoni and margarita pizza were both great. The shrimp casino, was definitely something special. The amount of shrimp on the pizza was incredible and cooked perfectly.

Amazing food. All made fresh. I have allergy to olives and olive oil and they make my pizza without it. Everyone else puts olive oil in the dough or sprays pan with it. This is the only place I have found where they make there own dough free of allergens. They make there own bread to. Delicious!!

Pizza took forever, but wow it was worth the wait. Don’t miss out on the homemade sausage as it’s perfect. I also got the chicken, prosciutto, and spinach white pie which was delicious. I’ll be back. I think it’s up there with all of the New Haven spots

Vintage interior design and very friendly staff. The shrimp casino is delicious — the the pizza texture is kind of like a less salty version of Frank Pepe’s. They give a generous amount of shrimp and bacon, but at $45 it still feels a bit pricey.

Roselands Pizza is absolutely incredible! The pizza truly represents some of Connecticut's finest - every bite was perfection. Their Caesar salad with house made dressing was equally outstanding. We were served by Marissa, the founder's granddaughter, who provided exceptional service and made our experience even more special. The family atmosphere and authentic Italian dining experience really shine through. This is easily a 10/10 spot. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for quality pizza and genuine hospitality. It's apparent why they're still slinging pies since 1935. Derby is lucky to have this gem!

New Haven style done in a gas oven. Slightly more mozz than the big three, cooked perfectly just without the coal fired char, basically. All fresh tasty ingredients just the same, I could taste the San Marzano, Pecorino, and quality mozz. The dough is a thinner style roll out, same as any other Apizza. Nice crisp bottom and nice chewy hard to tell where dough and cheese meet texture. Friendly hard working staff. Got my pizza in 20min on a Friday!!! Stellar, try them out you won’t be disappointed! 7.8/10
